Carbon Window Tint Chosen and Fitted for Bryan Drivers

Is a carbon film the right fit for how you drive around Bryan? The answer depends on a few things: how many miles you cover each day, how long you plan to keep the car, where it sits parked, how often you drive after dark, and what you want to spend. Weighing those first keeps the choice honest.

Summer 2023 shows what Brazos Valley heat can do. KBTX reported in “OFFICIAL: 2023 breaks a significant triple digit heat record,” published September 21, 2023, that the Brazos Valley had recorded its 70th triple-digit day of the year, so the heat ran well into fall. 2023 was an unusual year rather than a forecast, yet it is a fair prompt to think about how your car copes with long, sunny stretches.

At Shade-EZ, the process begins with a conversation about your vehicle, and the film, shade, and windows are matched to the car from there. Texas sets its own limits by window, so the law section further down explains where each one stands.

HITEK Film Options

HITEK Carbon IR and Ceramic IR Options at Shade-EZ: Pick the Film for Your Glass

Carbon IR is the film this page is about, and Ceramic IR is the step up for drivers who want more heat control from the glass. Shades are listed as VLT, the share of visible light a film lets through, where a lower number means darker.

HITEK Carbon IR

Infrared heat rejection up to 62% at 5% shade, per HITEK

HITEK Carbon IR non-metallic carbon window film roll and box used by Shade-EZ in Bryan, TX
  • Construction: Built around carbon nanoparticles with no metal layers, so it is a non-metallic carbon film.
  • Thickness: Carbon IR is listed at 1.5 mil thick, a figure worth comparing when you ask about other films.
  • Infrared range: HITEK measures its infrared rejection across a broad band running from 780 to 2500 nm.
  • Color: HITEK lists Carbon IR as a neutral color film, so the look stays plain rather than strongly tinted.
  • Shades: Available in 5, 20, 35, and 50% VLT, giving a darkness choice for most window needs.

HITEK Ceramic IR

Infrared heat rejection up to 75% at 5% VLT, per HITEK

HITEK Ceramic IR carbon-based ceramic window film roll and box offered by Shade-EZ in Bryan, TX
  • Construction: HITEK’s own description is a carbon-based ceramic film, so carbon is part of its makeup too.
  • Adhesive: It uses a moderate-tack adhesive, which HITEK lists among the film’s published specifications.
  • Infrared range: HITEK’s infrared figure for this film covers a slightly wider band, starting at 740 and running to 2500 nm.
  • Color: Also listed as neutral in color, so stepping up in heat control does not bring a stronger color cast.
  • Shades: Offered in 5, 20, 35, 50, and 70% VLT, which adds a lighter choice than Carbon IR lists on this page.

Not sure carbon is enough?

Describe how the car is used and what bothers you most about its glass, and we’ll suggest a film. Shades can be talked through window by window too.

The Process

Carbon Tint Installation in Bryan, TX: Five Steps from Consultation to Handover

01

Film, Shade and Window Choice

We start by looking at your glass and talking through the windows you want covered in carbon. Each window’s shade is settled one at a time before any film is cut, so the plan is clear before work begins.

02

Glass Preparation

Each window is sprayed with slip solution and worked over with a glass scraper to lift bonded grime, then a microfiber pad and lint-free towels leave the surface clear. Specks left on the glass would stay under the film for good, so this stage sets how clean the finish looks.

03

Trimming and Shaping the Film

The installer cuts a separate piece of carbon film for each window and trims it to the outline with a blade. Heat from a gun then shrinks the film to the curve of the glass, which keeps creases out.

04

Laying the Film

With the glass wet again, the film is positioned and a hard card pushes water out from the center toward the edges, followed by a soft squeegee. A final pass along the edges presses them flat against the glass.

05

Inspection and Handover

Under an inspection light, the installer checks each window for dust specks, edge gaps and lifted corners. At handover, ask when the windows can go down again, because the timing varies with the film and the season, and raise anything you spot while the car is still with us.

Why Carbon Film Suits Bryan-College Station Driving

2023 Set a Triple-Digit Record

In its year-end review, KBTX put 2023 at 75 days of 100 degrees or more in Bryan-College Station, beating the 69 days logged in 2011. In a year like that, cars parked outdoors took a lot of direct sun.

Class-Start Traffic Around Texas A&M

In KBTX’s August 2022 traffic guide, the morning rush runs 7 to 9 a.m., the midday one noon to 2 p.m., and the evening one 4 to 6:30 p.m. Wellborn Road, George Bush Drive and FM 2818 are flagged as trouble spots, with Texas Avenue, South College Avenue and Highway 6 as the alternates. Drivers on these routes at busy hours may spend more time behind the glass than they planned.

A Summer Average Near 90 Degrees

The same KBTX report puts the summer 2023 average at 89.8 degrees. With an average that high, ordinary summer days run hot for anyone driving around the Brazos Valley.

Texas Tint Regulations

Carbon Tint and Texas Law: How Each Window Is Limited

Section 547.613 of the Texas Transportation Code, together with Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) standards, governs how dark and how reflective film may be. Each window has its own rule.

Limits are written as VLT, the same measure used for the shades above. DPS measures with the original glass in place, so a film’s labeled percentage is not the finished-window reading.

FAQ

Carbon Tint Questions from Bryan and College Station Drivers

That depends on how the car is used and parked. HITEK publishes a higher infrared rejection figure for Ceramic IR than for Carbon IR, and the Options section lists both, so a car left in sun all day or driven long hours is worth pricing in each film. Call and Shade-EZ will compare both for your vehicle.

Your vehicle sets most of the price. A larger car, or one with complicated rear glass, takes more film and installer time, and the windows you cover decide the scope. Carbon IR and Ceramic IR are different films, so that choice matters too. Send the details through the form and Shade-EZ will return a figure for your car.

Yes. The Bryan shop takes carbon tint appointments from College Station drivers, since the two cities sit side by side. Use the form to send your car’s details, or call (979) 481-8468, and Shade-EZ will suggest a time. The service area section has the shop’s address and hours for the trip. Our service area page lists the other Brazos Valley towns we serve.

Texas has a medical route to darker tint, though it works differently than it used to. Since January 1, 2019, DPS no longer issues exemption certificates. Instead, a licensed physician or optometrist signs a statement, which can serve as a defense under Transportation Code 547.613(e). Check with your doctor before ordering any film, then call Shade-EZ.

Look at the lighter shades first for the front side windows and any glass you rely on to see traffic after dark. Darker shades are easier to live with on the rear side windows. Texas limits the front sides, so check the law table, then ask Shade-EZ to match a shade to each window.
